7 cheap date ideas for Valentine's Day

Deciding where to go on Valentine’s Day can be difficult, especially if you need to watch your pennies. It can easily become a really expensive day if you aren’t careful, but it doesn’t have to be! There are lots of romantic things you can do that don't cost a huge amount, sometimes we just need step out of the mind frame that the amount of money you spend is what makes it special. So to give you some ideas, here are 7 ideas for a cheap Valentine's Day date!

1. Food
For my boyfriend and I, a meal is something we really associate with Valentine's day. Cooking at home can really help you save money and can be equally, if not more, delicious. We live with our parents, and thats not really a romantic setting, so instead of going somewhere expensive (and way too crowded!), this year we are going to try finding some yummy cheap street food and sit somewhere nice.

Sitting down drinking a Mulled Cider.
2. Walking
We love nature and walking, its a great way of seeing the beauty spots in the area. Try putting on some comfy shoes and go walking in a nearby nature reserve. It's exercise too!

A beautiful place to walk near me, Clent Hills, Birmingham.
 3. ‘Netflix & Chill’
Cinemas can be a really expensive outing these days, so why not try watching an old favourite DVD or if you have subscriptions to movie sites, pick a fun film to watch. Popcorn, chocolate and a bottle of wine from stores like Aldi or Lidl are reasonable in price and will still be a cheaper date then going to the Cinema.

The Notebook, my favourite love story.

4. Games
Most of us will have board games lying around the house. Make the effort to get them out and have a games night. It’s free and the Nostalgia and a laugh will guarantee a fun night in. We've recently been gifted Speak Out, and we can't wait to play it. This might even be a cute double date!

5. Picnic
If the thought of getting street food doesn't seem romantic enough, a picnic is always a winner. Even in the cold months, you can still dig out that blanket and hamper from the back of the cupboard. Wrap up warm and take some soup and hot chocolate in flasks. It's also the perfect excuse for a cuddle.

6. Stargazing
While dark Winter nights are still here try going to place where there is not much light pollution and looking up at sky, a park or a hill is a good place to start. It is renowned for being a romantic date setting and the beauty of the sky has always fascinated my boyfriend and I. Try using a stargazing app if you don't know much about constellations, I use the 'Night Sky 4' app. This might even be a good time to take your winter picnic!

7. Getting Intimate
We have an invisible amount of stress in our day to day lives, trying to juggle all our priorities. For my boyfriend and I, the routine of work, gym, eat, sleep, paired with the fact we don’t live with each other can make having time alone really difficult. This doesn’t have to be about sex, just try taking the time to remove all the distractions, no phones, no TV and no one else, just you two. Take this time to listen to each other, to appreciate each other. Make time for a chat, or a kiss and cuddle and it’ll make all the difference. It doesn’t have to be all sleep, work, gym, eat, and repeat.

What do you have planned for this Valentine's Day?

Reniee xoxo
